Christmas Mantel

Oh how I love Christmas! Layla is having a mantel party and thought I would join in. Make sure and head over to http://theletteredcottage.net/ to see all of the magic. Turquoise, red and silver were my choice of colors this year for my mantel.
I have this fetish with vintage ornaments and so decided to make that the focal point this year on my mantel.

This poinsettia tree was a gift from my Grandma 10 plus years ago and I cherish it. It is lighted and is beautiful when the color changes to turquoise as the accent color on the tree.

My s-i-l gave me these trees three years ago from Target. Love them even more being that they are from my sista!!! (Love ya Mindy)

This is my favorite ornament of the wise men in flocking. I pray I am not clumsy when I am putting this one away...which I tend to be.

Our t.v. is right above the mantle and all of the boxes that go with it adorn the mantel which is a sore subject in our house. I think I am gonna have to call Nate for this one and ask for a Nate's Crate to be delivered to my house to fix said boxes on the mantel. I know he would agree with me that they just don't belong there. (Oh and anyone out there knowing Nate, please tell him of my longing for a visit.:)

Christmas In The Air

Every Veterans day I begin the process of decorating for the upcoming Christmas season. My attic stores nothing but Christmas. Does that give you an inkling of how much we love the season?

Fall centerpiece

Style Sisters is having centerpiece wednesdays so I thought I would link up with my turquoise pumpkins.

This past weekend instead of cleaning, I painted mini pumpkins. Some I painted turquoise, some I painted pale robins egg blue, and the others were silver. Next year I will paint faux pumpkins cause I loved em that much!

This is my display of all three colors mixed in with leaves from our front yard. I love the combination of colors. We ended up using Martha Stewart glitter on a few and loved how they turned out! Oh thank you Martha for your glitter greatness!

Here they are painted with a coat of glaze in a charcoal color.

The Lords on my side...

I am joining Miss Mustard seed for Furniture Feature Friday.

Every September our state has an event known as the Nebraska Junk Jaunt. My mom and I have gone together every year. It is our birthday gift to each other. The people we meet, the treasures we find, and most importantly the one on one time i get to spend with my best friend is priceless. This year the jaunt fell on our homecoming and my daughter was a candidate (she was crowned queen by the way:) so proud of her!) so our two to three day trip had to be consolidated into five hours...yes only five hours to discover all of the small towns filled with treasures. Sadness people...sadness. But I thought I would share with you a few of the lovelies I found during our 5 hour trip.

I found this rug for .25 and couldn't pass it up. I washed it and am using it as a table runner for my other treasure.
I have been searching for a bed side table for months but didn't have $100 plus to spend. One of our first stops found me an old pulpit from an old church. It was on rollers and even has a place to store my magazines and devotion books.
Okay so having not blogged for 5 months I added the pics in the wrong order....sorry and bear with me. Here is my pulpit primed.
And here it is in its raw form. It started out at $40 but I ended up giving $15 for it! With a little TLC....
Here is the final result. Now ladies, I also like to remind my husband the I have the "Lord" on my side being that this pulpit has probably provided many a sermons. He he. Lance doesn't find it as funny as I do. Now all I need to do is get some cord covers for all of my electrical wiring.

Amazing Mothers Day

I am linking up with Reluctant Entertainer today to share my Mothers day.

What an amazing day it was! My kids came upstairs with these blue jars in hand and wished me a happy mothers day.

Of course my mom had something to do with the 3 jars for my 3 babies. My favorite gift from my favorite people.
I have been trying to figure out what to put on my footstool and waa laa here it is! Thanks Mom and Company!
These flowers came to my work on Thursday from my oldest daughter. She is a junior this year and her card commented on one last year together and how would she do it without her best friend...her mom. What more could a mom ask for for Mothers day?

Then the kids and I spent Saturday afternoon baking for some other special moms in our lives.

Sour cream cupcakes... my downfall.

Schylar covered small boxes with black and white scrapbook paper and put tissue paper in each box.

After we frosted the cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, we fanned a strawberry out on top and placed them in their boxes.

The kids gave them to the other moms in their lives that have impacted them, fed them, inspired them, prayed for them...you get the point. I too decided to join in and delivered two to moms I chose to honor. One being a mom to a young man who was very impactful in my life. He passed away our second year in college and so in honor of Bryant, I honored Margarie.

Everyone appreciated them.. even a few tears were shed.

My most treasured part of my day had to be as we sat in church. I began to look around at husbands who usually do not come to church but more than likely they came for Mothers day at the request of their wives and moms. Then I looked down our row and at the end of our three children who love their Lord and Savior was a man who has taught them to love their Lord and Savior. He is there always, he is our rock, and he is there every Sunday being the spiritual leader for his family. That...was the best gift of my day...Thank you Lance. Your are our rock.

 So sorry for not updating on the kitchen… Been a little busy…….

Character

Character is what makes a space your space.    Last year i picked these up at a garage sale.  They were purple but after a quick coat of paint, they will support the counter on our buffet turned island.

I plan on painting/staining the island black.  We have decided to add a platform to the base of the buffet to give it some height and to have something to sit the storage baskets on. 

Here are the other character building pieces…courtesy of my mom and goodwill.  The bottom of each leg will be cut off and attached to the base of the cabinets to make the cabinets look more like furniture instead of cheap oak cabinets…stained to look like  cherry.  You get the picture.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air…

Actually… I’m walking on new flooring that is AMAZING!!! And this is the man to thank….

It’s my Dad:-) Sunday afternoon after church and dinner, my dad said let's get busy... and we did!

Lance had worked and worked on the flooring on Saturday and really had some issues laying it. I think he was just flat burned out from already installing some cupboards, cutting some trip so on and so forth.

I have always wanted flooring like this... and might I say my dad and I made a great pair. In fact the next day he called and told me to have the island room ready and he would be in after lunch and help me with it as well! He didn't have to tell me twice.

So this is what I found under the carpet. It was hard to cover it up but I knew I couldn't get it to match the kitchen. I started cutting the laminate and had about half of it cut by the time Dad made it in. We put it down in no time.

We still have some trim to do. Stay posted for the floor reveal...coming soon.
