"P" is for purty amazin husband

As I was trying to clean up a very messy kitchen after work last night my husband comes into the kitchen and remarks "I would have been home earlier but I had to take a "P" in Newport". I look up from what I'm doing about to announce, is that really neccessary to tell me you had to take a- and that's when I saw this precious piece of treasure in his hands. He and his crew were asked if they could take the time to take down the old letters off of the old Newport gym. And as wonderful as my husband is he thought of his wife and her love of all things old. He said the crew laughed at him and then decided they'd take home the letter that matched their last name as well.

To paint or not to paint... that is the question

Another Nebraska Junk Jaunt Find

See the little pumpkins? Another junk jaunt treasure. I found them in Cairo Nebraska for .50.
I also found the fall arrangement on the jaunt as well. Love the candleholder.

Works great on my footstool.

Or maybe I should say works great on my footstool until the football hits it. I'm holding my breath.. Will post more pics of the junk jaunt goodness as the days go by.

Nebraska Junk Jaunt Success!

For the past 4 years my Mom and I have traveled the "Loup" of the Nebraska Biways for the annual "Nebraska Junk Jaunt". We have made it our once a year mother and daughter event. And might I add we are never dissapointed by the fun we have, people we meet from all over the U.S. and even sometimes people we consider "celebrities".

This year we were faced with a few adversities in the preparation for the big event. My job took me to Lincoln Tuesday night with continuing education classes scheduled for the rest of the week. I crammed my 8 hours in Wednesday and Thursday so we could start the jaunt early Friday morning from Grand Island Nebraska.

This corner jaunt was filled with lots of goodies. I purchased an old scale and a large seashell. My Mom found an adorable small blue patina wheel barrel here.

Love this trunk! The inside has been painted orange. It will work great in my soon to be newly painted bedroom. All of the goodies in it were from our first stop of the day. Prices were amazing at this stop. Honestly we should have just stayed here all day as the building was full and they just kept on bringing out more treasures.

These old wash stands were crazy cheap. After this stop we were spoiled by the prices.

Can't wait to share more with y'all. Anyone else take the trip? Would love to hear from you!

July 4th Food

I read all of these wonderful titles... ingenious to be exact. And all I can come up with is 4th of July food? Sorry people. Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing blogging but truly if you put up with the lame writing... the pictures and the food is so worth it.

I have always wanted to make a flag cake and this was the year we accomplished it. It was a family effort and so much fun.We had so many laughs as we did this cake. The recipe is from the Barefoot Contessa so you know it's going to be good. The cake was a sour cream cake and the frosting... only a pound of butter in it's deliciousness. Thankfully there were so many people celebrating with us that I was not "burdened" to bring any home with me. Only one piece for me. Well maybe two but who's counting.
Here are my beautiful girls slaving away. We also had a high school friend of mine drop by during the baking process which made it even more special. I hadn't seen her since the passing of a dear friend and so it was good to have something joyous to talk about. Not saying the water works didn't flow though. They did but they were healing.

And now for the main attraction. Lances AMAZING cream can.

Do you see all of that mouth watering food? Brats, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, onions, corn on the cobb all cooked together in an old cream can.

Now remember I am blog illiterate and so these pictures are the process of the cream can backwards. Surprise! I promise to try to take a tutorial someday.

We had smoked brats, chicken brats, fancy cheese brats. They are put in last so as they cook their yummieness drips out all over the veggies to flavor them just right.

Yesterday my darling husbands mom called and told me I really needed to head over and pick her up for a garagle sale of all garage sales... And it did not dissapoint... Pieces of heaven... in all sizes just waiting for a little TLC...

Outdoor Wednesday

Susan over @ http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/ is having her weekly outdoor Wednesday party.

I have always loved seeing a beautiful tree with a border of hostas around it. I love the way it looks. So about 4 years ago, I ran into a great deal on hostas at the end of the year and purchased five hostas. (I think...4 years is a long time ago:-))
Then came the process of purchasing the brick to go around the hostas. I soon realized that my inexpensive hostas were now going to cost me an arm and a leg to build a container to plant them in.
My Mom always told me as a child "It's not what you don't have... but what you do have and do with it that counts". So down I went into my Garage sale closet to see what I could come up with. And there they were. Plates that I would have maybe got a couple of dollars out of waiting to be planted.

I now need to update a few plates that have broken but have been so happy with how it has turned out. The neighbor laughed hysterically at me and asked if we were eating on paper plates now. So funny. This year I added the pansies for a little more color and love it even more.

Cloche Partay

Marty over @ http://astrollthrulife.blogspot.com/2009/06/first-ever-cloche-party-welcome.html is having a cloche party today and thought I would join in the fun.

In the center of my memorial day/4th of July day decor... is a small cloche with an eggs nest filled with some wonderful red white and blue ribbon my MIL gave me. Works well with my apothecary jars... next we need an apothecary jar party girls.. who's up for it? (Oh and by the way, am I spelling that right?) :-)

Here's another cloche (yes, it too is from one of those cheese trays that I picked up at the thrift store... but it's cloche styleiish don't ya think?

Now of course once again I love cloches but the price tag has to be right. I found this vase at an antique store quite a while back and this is my home made cloche.. Tell me honestly what do you think? Does it work.. does it pass? The full picture is at the top of the post. I accidentally deleted it and so had to upload it again and now can't get it down here. Someone please have pitty on this poor illiterate blogger and help her learn a few tricks here.:-)

Lovin me some Ballard Designs fabric

I have been staring at my footstool for a long time now knowing that there was still life in it but it needed a new look... and here it is.

9 years ago my best friend who just happens to be my husband helped me make this footstool and this is the third re-upholstering that it has under gone and by far my favorite.
I had found the footstool I wanted in Ballard and if I remember right @ that the time it would be about $499 to purchase it.

So I hopped on e-bay and purchased the feet for $24.99 and used old cushions from a bench and took them apart and my husband constructed the frame.

Here is the before picture. And now I am off to vacume. I didn't realize how dirty the carpet was until looking @ my pics.. Oops... Life...

Outdoor Wednesday

Once again it is Outdoor Wednesday with Susan over at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/ . I decided to share with you today some pics of my Moms Grand baby Garden.
This is the entrance into the garden. Three years ago for Moms birthday I took the cousins and we went and searched all of Omaha for five statues that in some way resembled Moms grandkids. We finally found them. and here they are.

I then had the kids make stepping stones with their handprint and another one with their names. My adorable husband wrote a poem about the grandbaby garden and what a fun gift it was to give. Mom has since added more flowers as well. We will try to update with more pics of todays grandbaby garden. And if my brother would ever get busy.... (hint hint) maybe we could add a few more grand babies....

Prayers Please

For every believer out there, I am asking for earnest, sincere, heartfelt prayer for a family in our lives. My daughter lost a dear friend a week ago Monday in a tragic accident on her way to dance practice and school. We mourned her death and celebrated her life a week ago Saturday. Then Monday night, one week later, the two brothers were in an accident and their oldest son was killed. Please lift them up and ask Jesus to carry them through this tough time. I have met some dear sisters in Christ through this blog and knew I could call on you to pray.

Outdoor Wednesday

Today is Outdoor Wednesday over @ http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/ and so I thought I would share with you my moms potting shed.

My parents live in one of the most beautiful peaceful places in the world. When life becomes "full" I ache to run away to this place. Of course it is where I grew up and my childhood was the greatest so why would it not be where I would choose to retrieve to?

My husband found this garage while working one day and the owner told him he could have it. So my husband and dad decided to turn it into a cabin. They moved it 50 miles and then we (we would actually be my parents:')) were lucky enough to purchase some land that had our old country school that had been turned into a cabin so moms dream of a potting shed came true.( You can read more about the cabin/country school at http://roxannephilben.blogspot.com/2008/12/our-home-away-from-home.html)
She is an awesome gardener and I will share more pics with you in time. She even has a little "setting room" inside as well.
