When I began decorating our kitchen redo, I knew that behind the island I needed art that would stand up to 3 kids, all their friends and one bull in a china closet husband. Everything I put on the wall would eventually end up on the floor so that's when I knew I needed to think outside the box.Notice anything "interesting" about the above said picture? The knobs on the kitchen cupboards had clock faces on them & I had seen many large clocks painted on many different mediums. That's when the thought hit me about continuing the clock theme. And so I began painting. So as soon as I had some free time, I started in, inspiration picture in hand. Now this is where my dream of amazing art takes a turn. So as I am looking at the "inspiration picture", I don't continue with my roman numerals in the right direction. And to make matters even better, I didn't even realize it. That's where my son enters the picture, so to speak. He comes home from school, nods at my "art" and makes a comment like, pretty cool mom. Then he smiles that smile that interprets to, "Poor Mom, she's off here decorating rocker again." Then he continued on his merry way. It wasn't until supper that he asked if he could tell me something if I promised not be shoot the messenger. Yes son... That's when he points out that my clock reads one, two, three, six, five, four...not even a number not even a number, nine, ten, eleven, twelve. I wanted to cry. The clock had been painted on a faux finished wall that I no longer had the paint for and I really didn't feel like a re-do. Jayden would walk by the clock and comment about moms not even a number clock. And that's when it hit me. Embrace my mistake and have fun with it. So I went online, and typed in "The not even a number clock" in french and started painting.
Now to finish the story off, last year we had the sweetest exchange student from Switzerland who informed me that I hadn't even written "The not even a number clock" correctly. More laughs at my expense. Oh well if we can't laugh at ourselves.. we have issues.
I love my wall art and the fact that the kiddos no longer have to worry about knocking something off the wall. My son enjoys telling all new guests to our home the story of "The Not Even A Number Clock". Hope you enjoyed it as well.
